KIND-hearted walkers were today nursing their blisters after an 11-mile trek, but it was all for a good cause – to raise funds for Suffolk charity Disability Care Enterprise.

The team of 30 walkers, including Evening Star editor Nigel Pickover and his dog Sammy, raised about £1,000 for needy youngsters.

Led by Suffolk walking writer, Michael Anderton, the team trekked from Pipers Vale, Ipswich, along the banks of the River Orwell, to Trimley.

Armed with rations provided by Sainsbury's, the group put their best foot forward for the annual Press Ball Walk.

Each walker raised a minimum of £25 each. Carolyne Morey, project director from DCE, thanked everyone who took part and said: "It went very well and I am surprisingly not stiff today.

"There was a nice atmosphere. It was a tough 11 miles but everybody walked with a smile on their faces and all seemed to enjoy it.

"I would just like to thank everybody who turned up. As far as I know I think everyone completed the walk."

n The Press Ball in aid of DCE takes place at The County Hotel, Copdock, on Friday.
