The body of a man that was recovered from the River Orwell is believed to be the man who was seen jumping from the Orwell Bridge last month.
It was spotted by passing sailors on Sunday at around 8.45am, who then alerted police.
It is believed the body was in the Cliff Quay area of the river, and it was recovered by the Harwich inshore lifeboat using the Orwell Yacht Club’s slipway.
A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said the man was in his 30s and from the Ipswich area.
“Investigations surrounding the incident are ongoing but the body is believed to be that of the man who was seen to have jumped from the Orwell Bridge on November 26”, he added.
“The man’s death will be treated as unexplained although it is not thought to be suspicious.”
A man in distress was seen jumping off the bridge, leaving behind a pair of blue Nike Air trainers.
After extensive searches by police and coastguards, the man was never found and no reports of a missing person were made.
The matter has been referred to the coroner and the man’s details will be released when an inquest opens.
