INVESTIGATIONS were taking place today after the body of a man was found on the beach at Landguard at Felixstowe.

It is the third time in the past two months that police have been called to deal with a death on the shore at the seaside town.

Officers were called at 8.20am today after a man discovered the body on the beach near the Felixstowe Port Viewing Area off Viewpoint Road.

They said the early indications were that it was the body of a man, possibly aged in his 40s or 50s.

It is not yet known whether the body was washed up by the sea.

Preliminary inquiries were taking place as part of standard procedures and the death was being treated as unexplained.

As well as the popular port viewpoint - which is used by shipping enthusiasts, walkers and courting couples 24 hours a day - The Landguard area includes a 65-acre internationally-important nature reserve and bird observatory.

The windswept peninsula reserve is isolated and little-used in winter, but is managed by a warden.

Last week the body of a 63-year-old dog walker was found near the pier after the man collapsed while walking on the beach, and the body of Joe Frost, 79, was found at the bottom of Brackenbury Cliffs in November.
