A BOGUS caller stole a wallet from an elderly person in Ipswich this afternoon.

At about 12.35pm in Austin Street a young man knocked on the door of an elderly resident.

He asked if a table was for sale and if he could leave his mobile number. As the elderly occupant turned around to pick up a pen and paper the offender grabbed a wallet from a side board and ran off towards Belstead Road.

Police are trying to trace the offender, described as white, approximately 28 years old, between 5 foot 10 inches and 6 foot tall, of large build.

He was wearing a grey pullover with a white t-shirt underneath.
