POLICE are warning the elderly to check identification before letting people into their homes after five incidents today where bogus callers targeted Suffolk pensioners.

POLICE are warning the elderly to check identification before letting people into their homes after five incidents today where bogus callers targeted Suffolk pensioners.

In four of the five cases in Clare, Haverhill and Sudbury this afternoon the offenders claimed to be from the water board. Another pretended to be from the council.

The incidents happened between 2 and 3 pm and in all of the cases three men were working together.

A spokesman from Suffolk police said: "Anyone from official bodies such as the water board or the council will have photographic identification and will not mind being challenged. If in doubt keep them out and dial 999 immediately."
