SUFFOLK Police are warning people to be on their guard today after bogus callers targeted the home of a 78-year-old woman in The Hamiltons, Newmarket.

At around 2.45pm yesterday two men called at the pensioner's home claiming that there was a problem with the gas main and that the water needed to be turned off at her property.

While one of the men distracted the woman, his accomplice made a search of the property and stole a quantity of cash.

The men are described as white male, around 5ft 9in tall, short fair hair, early 20s, wearing a dark blue coat, spoke with an Irish accent the other is also a white male, around 5ft 9in tall, medium build, mid to late 20s, clean shaven.

Police are repeating their warnings for people to remain vigilant and not let any unknown callers into their homes without checking first that they are genuine.
