BOMB disposal crews were today called to Felixstowe beach after a suspicious object was found on the beach near Mannings amusement park.

The object turned out to be an 18-inch shell which was cordoned off by police and coastguards until a bomb disposal team arrived.

The shell was discovered by an enthusiast with a metal detector, but because it was not too large only a small area had to be cordoned off - it did not disrupt the nearby Sunday market.

Neither did it cause as much disruption as the bomb which was dug up earlier this year by contractors building the resorts new sea defences.
