AN 11-year-old boy died in a motorway crash which involved at least six vehicles and left a number of other people with serious injuries, police said today.
The boy who died was a rear seat passenger in a Ford Escort caught up in the incident on the M62 in West Yorkshire just after 6pm yesterday when the motorway would have been exceptionally busy.
A police spokesman said: "It appears that a large mobile crane swerved in the road which caused traffic behind it to brake.
"As a result of the sudden stop, a goods vehicle collided with the rear of a Ford Escort.
"An 11-year-old male passenger in the rear seat of the Ford Escort received injuries which proved fatal.
"In total 10 persons were injured. Primarily, there were six vehicles involved.
"Of the 10 people injured, several have been seriously injured but none are believed to be life threatening."
