A GOOD Samaritan has saved the day after finding the necklace an Ipswich boy thought he had lost forever.

Denise Harvey phoned the Star after we appealed for any information on the necklace that belonged to Shane Fonville.

The necklace was a gift from his long lost father the very first time they ever met. It had been worn by Gary Fonville when he served in Kuwait and had great sentimental worth.

Mrs Harvey said: "I thought it was strange because I found the necklace near Osborne Road and your paper said Shane worked there so I phoned up to check. I am just so glad I could have helped get it back to him and save a lot of heart ache."

Melanie Powell, Shane's mum, said: " Shane was just about to phone his father and tell him he had lost the necklace but I told him to wait just a little longer and then you phoned and told us Mr Harvey had been in contact. It is absolutely wonderful and we can not thank Mrs Harvey enough. The necklace was really important to Shane and he was devastated when he thought he had lost it."

Mrs Harvey, of York Road, had even got the necklace fixed when she found it on Felixstowe Road last week. To thank her Shane gave her a card with the money for the repairs.

Mr Fonville was an American GI and Shane traced him with the help of his mother Melanie Powell. They never knew about each other until an emotional reunion two years ago. Mrs Powell had previously traced her own father who was also an American GI.
