FOUR people, including two three year-old boys, were taken to hospital today with serious injuries following a three-vehicle road accident.

The crash happened on the A143 between Stradishall and Haverhill just after 9am

It took firefighters one hour to free a 40-year-old man from his Skoda car. He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with serious multiple injuries to his head and chest.

A female driver of a green Audi suffered head and facial injuries, and two three-year-old boys in the car received abdominal injuries. An ambulance spokesman described their conditions as serious and they were taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, a silver Mercedes, escaped without injury.

Three ambulance and one medic were in attendance.

Diversions were set-up by the police and the road was blocked for several hours.
