STEVEN…you are the strongest link!

Brainbox Steven Bassingthwaighte gave TV presenter Anne Robinson a run for her money by scooping more than £1,000 in the popular quiz show The Weakest Link.

Mr Bassingthwaighte, who teaches vehicle engineering at Suffolk College, put up with her cutting remarks to return home a winner.

The 34-year-old, of Warren Lane, Martlesham Heath, said: "I got a few insults from Anne Robinson. She said a mechanic has only got three words to say under the bonnet and that's "I don't know."

"She also gave me a dig about my hair colour because I have grey streaks in my hair. But I gave her a bit of a go back and said I had a lucrative contract with Just for Men hair products.

"But she gave me a kiss at the end to show there are no hard feelings. Off camera she's really nice. It is obviously just a façade.

"But she told us: "If you are not going to take it, go now."

Mr Bassingthwaighte enjoyed a night in a hotel on top of the cash prize. "It was nice for a day's work," he said.

His biggest fear was to be the first to get voted off, but he pulled through to win the show.

The Weakest Link featuring Steven Bassingthwaighte is broadcast tomorrow on BBC2 at 5.15 pm.
