A MAN has been left with a gunshot wound following a brawl at a town centre club.

Suffolk Constabulary confirmed this afternoon that a man went to Ipswich Hospital today with the injury.

A police spokesman said: “Suffolk police are now investigating a serious incident at the Caribbean Club in Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, after a fifth male presented himself to Ipswich Hospital with what is believed to be a gun shot wound. The injury is however, not believed to be life threatening.”

Four other people are also being treated in hospital with minor cuts and bruises following the fight. The East of England Ambulance Service said that four ambulances were called to the club.

One person was believed to have been bottled in the face and another was found unconscious near the old Odeon cinema.

Police have said that the cordon will remain in place outside the club and the section of Woodbridge Road will remain closed for the majority of the day.

One resident who lives in Tudor Court, which is close to the club, told this morning how he saw a group of people arguing. “There must have been about 10 of them. They were arguing. I am sure that one of the girls said something about a shot being fired.”

Anyone who was at the club last night is asked to contact Ipswich CID without delay on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
