HORRIFIED shoppers have told how a 23-year-old had a chunk of his ear bitten off as a pub fight spilled onto the streets of a Suffolk town centre.

The 23-year-old victim is thought to have undergone surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital yesterday following the attack which happened outside the Grover and Allen pub in North Street, Sudbury in front of shocked customers and passers-by.

It is believed the fight started inside the JD Wetherspoons-owned pub and then continued outside as many shops were closing up for the day on Wednesday between 4pm and 5.15pm.

One passer-by, who did not want to be named, said: “I didn't actually see the fight but when I walked by you could see a bit of the ear on the pavement and some blood. It was really horrifying.”

A spokesman for JD Wetherspoon said: “Obviously any incident which involves the pub is regrettable. The pub has been in the town for more than 18 months and it has been very successful with a good track record. We will assist with police in any way we can, which could include handing in CCTV footage or giving eyewitness accounts.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Suffolk police on 01284 774100.
