SEVEN young adults in Ipswich are looking ahead to a brighter future after successfully completing a 12-week Princes Trust Programme.

The group has been presented with certificates to mark the end of their training and development and they are now preparing to move on to bigger and better things.

Charlie Andrews, David Parker, Diane Mortimer, Jemma Klansek, Steven Beecroft, Stephen Tarbuck-Smith and Michael Parsons all received awards for completing the programme.

As part of the 12-week course the group carried out a four-week community project in which they built a jubilee garden at Downing Primary School.

The seven, aged between 16 and 25, also received certificates for taking part in a residential as well as Wing Fellowship certificates for their time at a centre in Southampton where they helped look after disabled men and women.

Emily Chalker, assistant team leader, said of the programme: "Our main aim as is to get them into further training, education or jobs.

"The main focus of the course is to give them a number of skills that they need to improve their own personal skills such as tolerance and confidence."

The seven are now looking ahead to using the skills they have gained in the programme in further education or jobs.

A number of the group are expected to return to work at the centre for the disabled in Southampton, while others will go to college.
