BRITISH Gas customers were today hit with a 22% rise in electricity and gas bills.Centrica, which owns British Gas, blamed the move on soaring wholesale gas prices, which it said were now the highest in Europe.

Centrica, which owns British Gas, blamed the move on soaring wholesale gas prices, which it said were now the highest in Europe.
The latest increase, which follows rises by other providers, will take effect from March 1. The company has 11.3 million gas accounts and 5.9 electricity accounts.
