One lane was closed whilst the vehicle was recovered.
One witness described the tailbacks as almost reaching the Seven Hills roundabout as rush hour traffic tried to get through.
Another said they had been caught in tailbacks for an hour.
A police spokesperson said they were called shortly before 4pm to the incident on the westbound carriageway.
They confirmed that police were on the scene dealing with the incident and that it had now been cleared.
