SEVENTIES pop group Brotherhood of Man are set to pull in the crowds at a VE and VJ anniversary celebration event in Stowmarket, it was revealed today.

The 1976 Eurovision Song Contest winners will be live on stage at the event in July to lead a Songs from the Decades music extravaganza.

The group – famous for their song Save Your Kisses for me – will represent the 70s, Stowmarket group Long Walk Home will sing songs from the 90s, Tina Turner and Buddy Holly tribute artists will represent the 80s and 50s, and a group called Manhattan magic will fly the flag for the 60s and 40s.

Alongside music, the celebration will feature period side shows, archive films, 1940s re-enactments, dancers, a display of classic cars and a flypast by the Spitfire, Lancaster and Hurricane of the Battle of Britain memorial Flight.

Organiser Cliff Dix said: "Stowmarket will be unrivalled in the eastern region in the scale of the event it is staging to mark the 60th anniversary of VE and VJ day."

The Stowmarket branch of the Royal British Legion has arranged a military parade with veterans from the legion and the Old Comrades Association.

The event, in the Market Place, is on Sunday, July 10, from 11am to 11pm.
