Troublemakers have reportedly been stealing phones and bicycles in and around an Ipswich park.

People living close to Brunswick Park in Ipswich have raised concerns with police over anti-social behaviour in the area.

They say bicycles and phones have been stolen in the area, along with the culprits reportedly intimidating neighbours.

Officers say there have been “isolated reports” of anti-social behaviour which they are looking into.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “They have been causing a lot of trouble.

“It’s quite intimidating. I know people are worried. They’re young but when there is a whole group of them it can be quite scary.

“It’s had an impact on all of us. If they’re taking stuff, I can’t see why they should be allowed to use the park.”

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said the Safer Neighbourhood Team in the area “has received some isolated reports of anti-social behaviour and theft in the Brunswick Park area”.

The spokesman added: “We fully acknowledge and understand the distress and upset such crime can have on residents and how they can blight communities, cause upset and distress and affect their quality of life.

“If anyone has been the victim of such incidents, we would encourage them to report this to us so it helps us to gain a full understanding of what is happening in the area and we can take appropriate action.”

Stephen Ion, Conservative borough councillor for the Rushmere ward – where Brunswick Park is located – said he would raise the reports with police.

He said it is always important for people to take precautions to minimise them being targeted by opportunistic thieves.

“It’s about being aware of what’s going on around you – quite often you don’t even think about it,” he said.

“It’s just about making people aware not to take anything for granted.”

Fellow Rushmere ward councillor Sandra Gage, a Labour representative, said she was disappointed to hear of the anti-social behaviour reports and that she would also speak to police about them.

“Police have run a couple of campaigns recently encouraging people to keep their sheds and outbuildings secure,” she said.

“I would encourage residents to contact me so we can make sure their particular issues are dealt with quickly.”
