A NATIONAL construction firm with branches in Ipswich and Felixstowe has today confirmed there will be job losses across the business.

Although a spokeswoman for Travis Perkins could not confirm where the redundancies would be or how many people would be affected, she stated that the move was aimed at reducing costs due to the financial difficulties in the construction market.

Travis Perkins is one of the country's leading builders' merchants with more than 600 branches across the UK. It supplies building materials for trade professionals.

The spokeswoman said: “Because of the decline in the construction industry and the fact that we are expecting this to decline further, we are having to reduce costs across the whole of the business.

“Unfortunately we had to make the decision to lose some positions across the business. We cannot comment on the specifics at the moment as we are still in consultation with employees.”
