DETECTIVES are today hunting a gang of burglars raiding homes in Felixstowe.

They are investigating a series of six burglaries in the Walton and Coronation estate area.

Five of the incidents happened between 10am and 9.30pm on Wednesday January 30, and involved the thieves either walking into unlocked homes or breaking in.

In an incident at a house in Coronation Drive around 8.40pm, an 83-year-old woman was at home when a thief got in through an unlocked window.

He searched part of the property before entering the room where the woman was.

He then engaged her in conversation before walking out of the back door. A quantity of cash, two rings and bank books were taken.

Three men broke into a home in Kemsley Road between 6pm and 6.50pm and made a search of the property.

They were then disturbed by one of the residents who grabbed the phone to try and alert someone but the burglars broke it to prevent the call.

They then continued the search before fleeing. It's thought a handbag containing a small amount of cash was stolen.

Three homes were entered in Brackley Close - jewellery, including a ring, silver neck chain and silver hoop earrings, and two TV sets, were stolen from one, and a flatscreen TV was taken from another.

At the third, a purse containing cash and a bank card was stolen.

Detectives are linking the offences to a sixth burglary at a home in Philip Avenue between 11am on Monday January 28 and 9.45am today, January 31, where a quantity of jewellery was stolen.

A police spokeswoman said: “We would urge residents to remember to secure their homes, closing and locking windows and doors even if they are inside the property.”

Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the areas or who has information about any of the incidents or those involved should call Felixstowe CID on 01473 613500.
