A PUB barmaid is “going extreme” to raise money for breast cancer research.

Laura Hudson, 33, of Mayfield Road, Bury St Edmunds, has set herself her next challenges to raise money for Suffolk branch of the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity – to tackle the world’s largest obstacle course on May 11 followed by a skydive from 13,000ft on June 1.

Previously, the mother-of-two, who works at The One Bull in Bury, has run three marathons for Breakthrough, but she felt it was time to do something different and “step things up a notch”.

She added how she was always asking people to support her in the cause, so she wanted to show she is willing “to go out and do it myself”.

Raising money for research into cancer is particularly close to her heart, she said, as her father William Hudson, of Barrow, died from skin cancer aged 46 when she was just 13. Miss Hudson, who is chairman of Suffolk Breakthrough, said no matter what pain she endured through the challenges, it was nothing compared to having cancer.

“There are people out there suffering. It’s my bit to help. It’s what drives me,” she said.

She believes in the research Breakthrough is carrying out, adding breast cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.

During the Rat Race Dirty Weekend in Burghley, she will tackle 150 obstacles over 13 miles and three weeks later she will be take part in a tandem skydive at Beccles.

Ten of her colleagues from Gusto Pronto pubs will also be jumping.

Miss Hudson added how others skydiving at Beccles that weekend would also be able to do it for Breakthrough.

A quiz night at The One Bull last Sunday has already raised £1,000 for the charity.
