A BOOZED-up bus driver is today out of a job after she admitting getting behind the wheel while three times the drink-drive limit before crashing into a parked car.

Janice Swinfen had been drinking heavily at a Boxing Day party when an argument broke out and she decided to drive home.

On the journey from Shotley to her house in Wherstead Road, Ipswich, Swinfen ploughed her Skoda Octavia into the back of a parked car in Chelmondiston.

The force of the collision caused the vehicle to spin 90 degrees. When neighbours heard the collision, they saw Swinfen driving away.

Officers tracked her down to her home where she was breathalysed.

The 47-year-old was found to have 105mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court was told Swinfen had gone to the party with the intention of staying the night but when a row erupted she was assaulted.

Desperate to leave, she collected her belongings and jumped into her car, before setting off.

It emerged after her arrest that the car she had struck on her way home belonged to her doctor, whose wife had died only weeks earlier.

Officers who interviewed Swinfen said she had been particularly upset at what had happened.

She admitted drink-driving and a second charge of failing to stop after an accident.

Swinfen, who wept in the dock during a brief hearing, lost her job as a bus driver after her arrest. She remains unemployed.

A probation officer who conducted a pre-sentence report said the defendant had shown great remorse.

Swinfen was given a 1,500 fine and was told to pay 65 court costs and a 15 victim surcharge.

She was also banned from the road for two years, a ban which could be reduced by six months upon completion of a drink-drive rehabilitation course.

No extra punishment was given for the offence of failing to stop.

Another drink-driver has also been banned from the road. Timothy Fenn was stopped by officers after they noticed his yellow pick-up truck swerving across the road.

He was stopped on the A12 near the Grundisburgh roundabout. Breath tests showed he had 52mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Fenn, 34, of, Burges Road, Southend-on-Sea, said he had been to a party where he had consumed alcohol, although he did not think he was over the limit.

Fenn was fined 300 and ordered to pay costs of 65 and a 15 victim surcharge.

The landscape gardener was also disqualified from the road for 12 months.
