PASSENGERS using Ipswich Buses have been left fuming by fare rises of up to 25 per cent.

Bus fares within the town have been standardised – which has seen 80p single fare tickets rise to £1.

Other fares have also risen – but existing single journeys which cost £1 have stayed the same price.

The price rises have been the talk of the bus queues, but Ipswich Buses managing director Malcolm Robson said about half the company's passengers would not see any increase.

"Only about 20 per cent of our passengers will see fares rise by 25pc, and 50pc will pay no increase at all.

"People can cut their fares by buying Saver Seven tickets – and the new £1 tickets are valid for transfers across the town," he said.

The company is still waiting to hear whether it will get funding from the government's Urban Bus Fund to improve services to the Whitton and Castle Hill areas of town.
