A BUSINESSMAN whose car was involved in a crash that left a 16-year-old girl with serious injuries is to face criminal charges.

Police have confirmed that Peter Whalley, 34, of Princes Gardens, Felixstowe, has been charged with careless driving and driving with excess alcohol on December 8. He is now due to appear before magistrates in Ipswich next Tuesday.

The accident, which happened in Garrison Lane, Felixstowe, left Vicky Kelcher, of the town's Chaucer Road, in hospital with serious leg and pelvic injuries.

The Suffolk College student, a former pupil at Deben High School, had been walking with her boyfriend, Ty Freer, at the time of the accident.

Mr Whalley was charged with the offences yesterday after answering bail at Felixstowe police station. He owns and runs Bonds wine bar with his wife Sarah and The Old Millars pub and restaurant, which are both on the seafront in Undercliff Road West.
