Architects’ cycle challenge benefits Ipswich Hospital

Intrepid architects who cycled 250 miles in just three days have handed over a cheque of nearly £3,000 to the Ipswich Hospital Charity.

The team of six from KLH Architects based in Ipswich, took part in the London to Paris cycle challenge in September, raising £2,739, which exceeded their target of £2,000.

Ben Moore, Tom Bryce, Andy Garnham, Bryan Wybrow and company directors, Martyn Goodwin and Robert Keeble trained for months before they set off on 3rd September, cycling from London to Portsmouth and then from Caen to Paris with an overnight stop at Evreux.

On October 23 they presented the cheque to Nick Hulme, CEO of Ipswich Hospital. The funds will be allocated to the dementia ward and the Wolverstone Wish for Cancer Trust.

On their success director Martyn Goodwin said: “Both the cause and the challenge seem to have really captured people’s interest this year. Where last year the team attracted 17 very generous donations, this year 100 people have donated resulting in us exceeding our target. We’re very happy to be here presenting the cheque to the charity and we know the money will be very well spent.”

Nick Hulme, CEO of Ipswich Hospital added: “We thank the team from KLH for putting their bodies through such torment to raise funds for us. The money KLH Architects has donated is will help us to offer a better and more comprehensive service to our patients.”

KLH have undertaken several design projects at the Ipswich Hospital, including the new Oncology department, and they are also the chosen architects for the new Two Rivers Medical Centre on Woodbridge Road.

In 2014 four members of the KLH Architects undertook the Snowdon Charity Challenge in aid of the sports tetraplegics trust, Regain, raising a total of £1,983.97.

KLH Architects is an RIBA chartered practice which provide design, planning and project management expertise in healthcare, residential, commercial and leisure development in East Anglia and London.

They recently won an award for their work on the restoration of Ipswich Regent, and are the creative team behind the Broomhill swimming pool bid.
