Town Topics with Dave Muller of Ipswich Chamber of Commerce
I am very pleased to announce that Fiona Wright, head of Marketing & Communications at Ipswich Central has joined the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce Board.
Ipswich Central is a not-for-profit Business Improvement District (BID) company.
There are now over 160 BIDs in the UK and this number is growing rapidly as other towns and cities see the benefit of businesses having a voice and financial input into the geographical area in which they trade.
Both Ipswich Central and Ipswich Chamber of Commerce are business-led and business-funded organisations.
Ipswich Central’s sole focus is the town centre, especially retail, with its main source of funding coming predominantly from town centre businesses.
Ipswich Chamber of Commerce has a much broader remit in terms of policy and geography covering the needs of businesses throughout Greater Ipswich. As both organisations have the enhancement of the local economy as their driving force it makes perfect sense that we work together for the greater good of Ipswich.
“I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to sit on the Board of the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce. Having a real understanding of the needs of the wider Ipswich business community and how these align with those of the town centre businesses can only help us when liaising with authorities on policy and economic development issues. A combined voice of business is clearly much stronger than two separate ones.

As a chamber of commerce, we have recently had a joint strategic meeting with Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council to support and represent local business interests.
Together we will seek improvements on key issues such as linking up the Waterfront with the town centre, how we encourage inward investment by ensuring we have the right business environment and road infrastructure in place.
This year will see the first Small Business Saturday in the UK, held on one of the busiest shopping days of the year - the first Saturday in December.
It is significant nationally and locally too.
