Five wins for Ipswich-based Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in UK Cruisers' Choice Awards

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has picked up five major awards at the annual UK Cruisers’ Choice Awards.

The Ipswich-based company’s Black Watch vessel received three awards in the “Small Ship” categories while the Balmoral collected two trophies in the “Mid-Size” section.

Black Watch, which has capacity for 804 guests, scored a full five out of five in the Small Ship Best for Service category and also won the Best for Shore Excursions and Best for Value awards with scores of 4.2 and 4.7 respectively.

It is the second year running that Black Watch has won the small ships shore excursions category of the awards which are based entirely on ratings awarded by guests.

Balmoral, which can accommodate up to 1,350 guests, won the Mid-Size Best for Shore Excursions category with a score of 4.4 and the Best for Value award with a rating of 4.5.

In addition, Black Watch was ranked second for the Best Small Ship Overall award, with a score of 4.3, with sister ship Braemar in fourth place with a rating of 4.1, while Balmoral came third in the Best Mid-Size Ship Overall category, with a score of 4.2.

Fred. Olsen ships also secured a total of 15 top five placings in other categories of the awards, which are based on reviews submitted by members of the Cruise Critic online community.

Olsen Cruise Lines, a member of the EADT/EDP Top100 listing of the 100 largest companies in Suffolk and Norfolk, was also recently named as a “Gold Trusted Merchant” by independent review site Feefo, for the second year in a row. This accreditation is based on customer feedback, with 95% of Fred. Olsen reviews currently rating it as “Good” or “Excellent”.

Fred. Olsen was also recognised last year as one of the top three UK cruise lines and awarded a “Recommended Provider” accolade in Which?’s first-ever dedicated cruise survey.
