Train operator Greater Anglia is set to unveil a new water fountain at Ipswich railway station as part of a drive to reduce waste.

The £30,000 scheme, which is aimed at reducing the number of single-use plastic bottles, will be officially opened on Wednesday, June 27, and customers can claim a free water bottle from 7.30am.

Earlier this year, Greater Anglia became one of the first train operators in England to offer free water to passengers after installing a water fountain at Chelmsford station.

Asset management director Simone Bailey said: “More than 3m people use Ipswich station every year and we hope that by providing free water, it will help makes passengers’ journeys a little easier. Customers will also be able to claim a free re-usable water bottle at the official opening. We care about the environment, so we are delivering a number of projects to improve our energy-efficiency.
