Concertus Design & Property Consultants has been recognised by a leading construction industry publication as one of the sector’s top 50 employers in the UK.
Nearly 200 companies registered to be considered for the 2014 Building Good Employer Guide, published this week by Building magazine, with Ipswich-based Concertus being among those to make the final 50.
Andrew Rowe, managing director at Concertus, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Concertus has been voted by the judges as one of the top 50 employers in the construction industry nationally.
“Our culture is founded on the firm belief that recognising the difference in the individuals that make up our team creates a productive environment in which everyone feels valued.”
Sarah Richardson, editor of Building and a member of the judging panel, said: “One respect in which many of the firms in the guide have shown real leadership is in recognising and promoting mental wellbeing among their staff; dealing with issues of potential stress and anxiety, which have traditionally fallen under the radar in construction.”
categories with 65% of the staff taking part in the survey, compared with a minimum requirement of one-third.
Each interested company was sent a link to an online staff survey that was then sent to all their employees and then had to be completed anonymously by not less than a third of the staff.
The survey gauged the strength of feeling on the company’s performance in eight key areas: leadership, CSR, employees’ opportunities to contribute, opportunities for smarter working, career progression, the company’s response to current market conditions and the promotion of mental wellbeing.
The survey responses were sent direct to Building magazine and were not seen by the employers in question, who had to separately supply a 500 statement as additional support to their application. The entries were then assessed by a panel of judges representing the construction industry nationally.
Concertus, where 65% of staff completed the survey, achieved an average score of four out of five in each category, covering areas including leadership, corporate social responsibility and career progression.
The judges commented that, through a combination of benefits packages, career development and staff satisfaction, Concertus had demonstrated that it is one of the industry’s leaders.
