The event marked the culmination of a 30-week construction programme at Otley Primary School which aimed to increase the accommodation space so both the Otley under 5’s and Otley Primary school could be incorporated within the same building.

Former professional footballer Roger Osborne was most famous for scoring the winning goal that won ITFC the FA Cup in 1978.

He was born and raised in Otley and started his footballing career playing for Suffolk & Ipswich League club, Grundisburgh. He said: “I went to Otley Primary School in 1955, when myself and my 13 siblings lived only 100 metres down the road. For me, it is good to see the school continuing to prosper from the two classrooms it used to be.”

Brooks & Wood was the main contractor for the £700k scheme and Concertus carried out all the multi-disciplinary design works, as well as project managing the demolition and construction work on behalf of the client.

The project was delivered on time and has provided the school with a new dedicated facility for dining, sports and activities, as well as a dedicated playground with good sight lines for safeguarding and an increased netball pitch.

IIan Liddell, school chairman of governors, commented: “Please can I officially thank everyone for providing the school and Under Fives with superb new facilities that we are very grateful for, and I know will greatly enhance what we are able to offer the children in our care.”

Executive headteacher, Richard Benstock said: “The new facilities are a fantastic resource for the children to enrich their educational experience, particularly with the wider curriculum such as sport, drama, music and dance.”
