The topping out ceremony has taken place at a £14m new academy - the Paxman Academy - in Colchester.
A brand new £14m academy, providing education for 900 pupils, is on the way for Colchester.
Councillor Ray Gooding, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Skills took part in a topping out ceremony at Paxman Academy in Colchester.
Local contractor, Barnes Construction was awarded the £14 million contract to build the new school earlier this year, and when completed in Autumn 2019, it will provide 900 new secondary spaces for the local community.
The topping out marks a milestone in the construction process when the building becomes watertight and work moves inside to carry out the fit-out elements of the project.

Paxman Academy, which will be run by The Sigma Trust, incorporates a three-storey building with 20 classrooms, a library, a suite of science laboratories, technology workshops, and a sports hall. Outside there will be a new multi-use games area and grass sports pitches.
Built as a steel frame construction with a mixture of brick and rain-screen cladding facades, the new school, which has been designed by Concertus, optimises the use of natural daylight by incorporating features such as curtain wall glazing to the first floor over the entrance to the school.
Mr Gooding said: “I’m delighted to see progress of Colchester’s brand-new secondary school and excited to mark this important milestone.
“We know the town is increasing rapidly in terms of population growth and this will inevitably have an impact on the number of children moving up from the area’s primary schools into its secondary schools.
“The hundreds of new places created at Paxman Academy will help us meet this demand and offer more choice to families in the local area.”
