Students benefit from bursary support

The latest round of student bursaries for University Campus Suffolk students hve been awarded by Ipswich Borough Council.

Eight students have been granted the financial award in the second year of the scheme, which is run in partnership with UCS.

It offers support to selected full-time and part-time undergraduates to encourage continued participation in higher education from people living in the local area.

Hannah Lyne, first year student, BA (Hons) Social Work said: “The bursary has literally been a lifeline for me and my son. I am so grateful for this opportunity. It has been a real blessing.”

Karen Wicks, first year student, BSc (Hons) Criminology, added: “The Ipswich Borough Council Bursary will help me massively with my studies at UCS, allowing me to focus 100% in order to achieve the best grades I can. I appreciate being awarded this support for the nextthree years, thank you”.

Andrew Robinson, second year student, BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Human Health, said: “In these tough economic times any extra money to help with books and general living expenses is greatly appreciated and I look forward to being able to put something back in to the community when I graduate.”

Mark Quinton, second year student, BA (Hons) Social Work, spoke of his thanks for the continued support: “It has been a great support to have the IBC Bursary, not only financially, but also as recognition of local people in higher education.”

The other students awarded bursaries are James Quansah (FdSc Civil Engineering), Lee Willcox (BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Human Health), Amanda Markwell (BA (Hons) History), Vera Maia (BA (Hons) Event Management).

Ipswich Borough Council and UCS would like to congratulate each student on their achievement and wish them all the best in their studies.

Councillor Carole Jones, EconomicDevelopment portfolio-holder at Ipswich Borough Council, said: “We are pleased to be able to support these students and the bursary scheme is a key part of our policy of expanding jobs and skills in Ipswich. Financial pressures canprevent students from focusing on their work, so we hope that these awards will make a real difference.”
