Despite also being on black alert intermittently throughout the week, meaning no ordinary beds are available, bosses said the hospital is managing well.
Clinical areas no usually used at weekends and evenings have been opened up as the hospital activated contingency plans to deal with the surge in demand.
Two wards also had to be closed to new patients because of an outbreak of the winter vomiting virus.
