A 23-year-old man has made his first appearance in court after being charged in connection with the murder of Ipswich teenager Tavis Spencer-Aitkens.

Callum Plaats spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and nationality at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning.

He entered no plea and was remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Crown Court for a further hearing at 2pm of Tuesday afternoon.

During a brief hearing, prosecutor Lesla Small asked magistrates to send the matter straight to the higher court.

Helen Korfanty, representing Plaats, made no observations.
