POLICE today released this CCTV picture of a man they would like to trace in connection with an attack on a member of staff at the Angel Hotel in Bury St Edmunds.

The employee, who is in his early 20s, disturbed intruders on the premises at around 8.55pm on Sunday, March 10.

He had just walked up a flight of stairs leading to the cellar area and entered a narrow corridor when he felt a blow to the head from behind. As he fell to the ground he was set upon by two men who kicked him in the face and ribs. The offenders then fled.

The victim made his way back to the restaurant area and the police were called. He was attended to by the ambulance service for cuts to the face and bruising to the ribs, but did not need hospital treatment.

One of the offenders was wearing dark blue jeans and dark coloured shoes, the other was wearing a black top. It is not believed anything was stolen.

Police hope the man pictured in the Angel Hotel at around the time of the incident may have some vital information to help with the inquiry. They are appealing for him to make contact as soon as possible and would also urge anyone who thinks they might recognise him to come forward.

Anyone with information should contact DC Gary James on 01284 774100, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
