FOOD safety experts have issued a warning about canned Dragon Boat shiitake Chinese mushrooms.

No illness has been reported, but experts are worried the bacteria could cause food poisoning.

Dr Jon Bell, chief executive of the Food Standards Agency, said: 'People should check they don't have any of these cans of mushrooms in their cupboards at home and caterers should also check they are not using them.

'These cans should not be opened or eaten, but safely disposed of.'

The affected product comes in 284 grammes or 10 ounce cans. Two codes are printed – L7 1 011026 846 on the lid and 3300/01007 on the base.

Country of origin will be listed as People's Republic of China.
