TWO men have been taken to hospital following a head-on collision between a car and a tractor.

The accident, in Bures Road, Wakes Colne, was reported just before 8am.

Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

An ambulance spokeswoman said: “A car and a tractor with a digger bucket at the front collided head on, causing quite serious damage to the car.

“The car driver, a 59-year-old local man, could not get out of the vehicle, so fire crews cut away the roof.

“He was then removed from the vehicle on a spinal board.

“The patient was complaining of pain in his chest and was fully assessed by ambulance crews before being taken to Colchester General Hospital.

“The tractor driver, a man believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was examined at the scene and appeared to have escaped serious injury.

“He was quite shaken by what had happened and was taken to the same hospital for further care.”
