The driver of a car which crashed into a wall in Goring Road, Ipswich this afternoon is believed to have suffered a stroke at the wheel, emergency services have said.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to Goring Road around 1.50pm today.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary said: “A car has come off the road and hit a wall.”

Officers closed Goring Road at the junctions of Halliwell Road and Lattice Avenue, with officers still at the scene.

The police spokeswoman said the male driver, a man in his 60s who is thought to be the only occupier of the car, was “conscious and breathing”.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew were called to treat one patient.

The spokesman added that “he may have had a suspected stroke”, and had been taken to Ipswich Hospital for further care.

His condition is not yet known.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service has sent two crews from Ipswich Princes Street and one each from Woodbridge and Ipswich East to the scene.
