A CAR crashed in to an Ipswich home today after the driver collapsed at the wheel.

The accident happened around 10.30am. An eye-witness saw the car rolling towards the wall with the driver slumped over the wheel.

The car was seen to roll fairly slowly down the road and then swerve into the wall.

Rossi Ramondo, the owner of the property where the incident took place, said the first he knew of the accident was when the police knocked on his door.

"I was just sitting inside when the police came and told me what had happened. It was lucky as it didn't hit that hard and it could have been much worse," he said.

Mr Ramondo's neighbour, Timothy Dighton said it was lucky that it happened when it did.

"It could have been much worse, and involved a lot more people, especially if it had happened when the kids were coming out of school. The driver was an old man and it looked like he was taken ill and lost control," he said.

Pc Raul Pigeon said the police were called to the scene by a member of the public, he said: "All we know is that the car was seen rolling towards the wall with the driver slumped over the wheel."

The force helicopter was also in action to get an aerial view of the scene.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Ipswich Hospital.
