A SECURITY guard at Cardinal Park is at the centre of an internal investigation after an attack on a teenager.

The 22-year-old, who is believed to live in Hadleigh, may face criminal charges after it was claimed he carried out an unprovoked assault, although no charges had been brought so far been brought, a police spokeswoman said yesterday.

The uniformed guard is said to have grabbed the 19-year-old motorist and smashed his head against the wall after he called at the hut asking for water when his radiator overheated.

A spokeswoman said that police attended the incident on Saturday morning.

It took place between a member of the public and someone working in Cardinal's Park.

"It was the member of the public who was assaulted. An investigation is now under way," she added.

The guard's employer Sheffield-based Excel Parking confirmed an incident took place but was reluctant to comment pending a full investigation.

Operations manager Glen Carter, said: "The guard in question was already serving out his notice. At this stage the attack has not been proved and it would be unfair to comment until I have spoke to the guard."

He added all car park attendants are vetted before taking up work with the company and most of them complete a certificate from SITO, the Security Industry Training Organisation

The motorist was badly bruised and after the attack went home. He is thought to have attended Ipswich Hospital the next day.

The car park has a manned kiosk 24 hours a day seven days a week.
