COASTGUARD teams in Kent were called after a car was spotted floating in the sea off Herne Bay.
A member of the public called Thames Coastguard at about 10.50am and Herne Bay and Margate coastguards and Whitstable RNLI inshore lifeboat.
Before the crews arrived on scene Kent police confirmed the car had been left on the beach the previous evening.
The lifeboat and Herne Bay coastguard were stood down whilst Margate coastguard kept the car under observation until it had grounded and was able to report its position.
