POLICE today revealed officers had recovered the car used in a robbery in Mildenhall on Monday.

A security van was delivering cash to the Nationwide Building Society in the Market Place at 8pm when four men wearing balaclavas and camouflage clothing appeared.

They threatened both the driver, who was still in the van, and the security guard, who was inside the building.

The men smashed windows at the bank and threatened the security guard with what is believed to have been a taser stun gun.

The men entered the bank and took three boxes containing a large quantity of cash, then left in a silver Vauxhall Omega.

Neither the driver nor the security guard were hurt.

The car, registration W103 WBO, was this afternoon found in Melbourne Drive in Mildenhall. Scenes of crime officers will now examine the vehicle.

Detective inspector John Brocklebank is leading the investigation.

He said: “We have had a large number of calls from witnesses to the incident itself - we would now like to hear from anyone who may have seen the car being abandoned in Melbourne Drive, or anyone who may have seen the car in the area before or after the robbery took place.

“I would still like to hear from anyone running a hotel or guest house in Mildenhall or the surrounding area who may have had a group of males staying last weekend.

“The cartridges the stolen money was in have also yet to be recovered - anyone who thinks they may have found these is asked not to handle them and to call police.”

Anyone with any information about this robbery should call Mildenhall CID on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
