IPSWICH-based sports clubs are set to benefit once again from a cash injection to help them improve opportunities in the town.

Ipswich Borough Council is seeking applications for funding from clubs as part of their annual small grants to sporting organisations programme.

The grants are specifically aimed at clubs who wish to either improve or extend sporting opportunities with money available for either new equipment or coach education.

Last year's programme awarded grants to eleven local organisations including Orwell Panthers Athletics Club, Ipswich BMX Club, Surestart, and Gainsborough Trampoline Club.

The Orwell Panthers newly formed in 2004, received funding to buy new equipment and to get new coaches qualified and to improve the qualifications of existing coaches.

Surestart got cash to help set up a new netball club for mothers from the Gainsborough estate.

In total the council has given almost £25,000 in grants since 1994 to 100 different clubs, who have in turn provided increased or better quality activities to many hundreds of people.

If your club would benefit from a small grant contact Leisure Support Services on 01473 433500 for an application form.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 31st January 2005.
