Suffolk police have stepped up their efforts to curb anti-social behaviour in north west Ipswich after a host of issues over the last two months.

Suffolk police officers held a surgery over issues in Garrick Way, which officers say have centred around one group of youngsters.

A knifepoint robbery at the Premier Express store on October 31 resulted in 25-year-old Nicholas Balderstone being given a jail sentence.

And as part of its latest measures police have upped high visibility patrols, had the mobile police station in the area and increased CCTV coverage.

Inspector Kevin Horton said: “This work is focused on a group of around six young people, who are regularly involved in anti-social behaviour and criminality in the area. Working with partners such as youth workers, the local authority, housing and social services, we are focused on finding ways to deter and disrupt criminal activity whilst supporting the young people as appropriate.

“Police have made arrests in connection with these incidents and five people are on police bail pending further enquiries. Patrols have been increased, a mobile police station was located on Garrick Way last month and we are hoping that mobile CCTV will be available shortly to improve monitoring of the area.”
