A CURIOUS cat who made a name for herself by visiting the bereaved at Ipswich cemetery is missing today.

Marnie has been a regular visitor since she first appeared there last year, occasionally sneaking into services.

Her owners and staff launched a hunt to find the much loved chocolate-brown Burmese after she went missing nearly a week ago.

Mike Grimwood, bereavement services manager at the crematorium, said:

"People have been asking about her as they expect to see her. She provides a light relief through people's sadness.

"She's exceptionally affectionate and occasionally walks in the chapels during a crematorium service.

"She once jumped on a coffin but her family were delighted because the dead woman was a cat lover. It seemed a fitting moment.

"She is being missed here at the cemetery and by her owners as since last Friday they have seen nothing of her."

Marnie crawled her way to the cemetery last year after being hit by a car. She was taken to a vet as it looked as if she would not survive.

She spends her days at the cemetery where she walks among the visitors, and nights with her owners who live nearby.

They have been put up notices nearby in a bid to find the one-year-old cat.

Mr Grimwood said: "She's quite a character and we are hoping people can check in their sheds and watch out for her.

"If she is somewhere lying injured we are asking for people to contact us."

Anyone who have seen her is urged to contact Mr Grimwood on 01473 - 433584.
