WANNABE popstars were put through their paces in a special reach for a star competition at Tower Ramparts shopping centre, Ipswich.

Around 60 competitors entertained shoppers with their own brand of funky flavours at the karaoke competition, sponsored by Tower Ramparts, Klowns Karaoke and Euroscene Entertainment, between 10.30am and 4.30pm on Sunday.

All proceeds from the competition will go towards The Evening Star's Christmas charity appeal.

The contestants were divided into a junior section, for under 11's, an intermediate section, for 12 to 15 year-olds, and an adult category, for those over 16. The winner of each category received a gift voucher.

Louis Tappenden, 11, of Parkers Place, Martlesham Heath, won the overall prize for his performance of A Little Less Conversation, by JXL versus Elvis Presley.

Lewis, who gets the chance to record his winning song, received his prize from last year's winner, Siobhan Bedford, of Ipswich.

He said that he was shocked but delighted to scoop the top prize.

Mike Sorhaindo, centre manager of Tower Ramparts, said: "This event has proved to be very popular over the years and has given many budding stars the opportunity to show off their talents.

"Many have gone on to bigger and better things since being discovered at our events on the local and national entertainment scene."
