THE Priory Centre in Queens Way, Ipswich, has had to postpone its grand reopening scheduled for tomorrow.

The new church and social centre was supposed to be opening at 9.30am with a "Cuppa Challenge Coffee Morning" but building work is behind schedule.

Margaret Bale, centre manager, stressed that this was no fault of the builders.

"They have worked really hard and it is just one of those things … hitches do happen.

"A tremendous amount of work has been carried out on the 1930s building to turn it in to a bright modern centre the community can really enjoy.

"We can't pretend it is not a disappointment but we are all very excited about the imaginative facelift the building has had."

For the last 18 months the centre has been run out of a mobile building and already a programme of family activities have been set up. The team is now looking forward to expanding this.

While the "Cuppa Challenge" has been put back until December 8 the centre will be up and running on November 11.
