COLCHESTER'S newest supermarket opened its doors to the public yesterday with the pop of champagne corks.
The new Waitrose outlet on St Andrew's Avenue opened at 8am prompt to welcome its first customers with a free “bag for life” each.
The supermarket is the biggest Waitrose food store in the country and stocks a range of meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits and delicatessen items.
There is also an extensive wines, beers and spirits section.
Yesterday, Waitrose spokeswoman Liana Griffiths said: “Today went really well. Thousands of people came along - we were really surprised by the number of interested customers.”
