Weather forecasters have been quick to dispel rumours of a white Christmas this year – and it looks as though the day itself will be mild, as will Boxing Day.

However, experts are warning snow may fall in the east of England later in the week, including in Suffolk and Essex, with wintry showers forecast for December 27.

Met Office chiefs are predicting Boxing Day will be slightly colder than Christmas Day, with temperatures falling to 2C.

But the mercury is likely to plummet to below zero on Wednesday – and experts are not ruling out a chance of snow.

Outlining their regional forecast for Tuesday to Thursday, forecasters at the Met Office said: “[East Anglia] could get rain and possible snow early on Wednesday, then cold and windy conditions with wintry showers.”

Thursday should be cold and bright but those returning to work will be met with widespread frost and icy conditions in the morning.

Experts at the Essex Weather Centre said although it is too early for detail at this stage, snow may be an issue for parts of England on Wednesday.
