Everyone at Sue Ryder Care The Chantry is celebrating after the news that Greg Allen and Phil Fox completed the gruelling Karrimor International Mountain Marathon and raised more than £500.

The toughest challenge in its class, the two day cross mountain race was held at the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park last month >.

Former Westbourne High School pupil Mr Allen served in the Parachute Regiment of the army with Mr Fox and said that the experience meant they were used to working together.

"It was a character building event, which was good fun, and we hope to do it again next year," said Mr Allen, who is now a staff instructor at St Joseph's College in Ipswich.

The pair came 148 out of 270 teams in their section and hoped to have raised between £500 and £700 for Sue Ryder Care The Chantry.

Mr Allen and Mr Fox, who now works as a staff instructor at Gordon's School in Woking, extended thanks to the parachute regiment in Colchester for all their help, Brian Park Camping for the loan of a tent, St Joseph's College and everyone who sponsored them.
